Congratulations to “Health in Mind” on National Lottery Grant

Mike Pringle, MSP for Edinburgh South, has offered his congratulations and support to "Health in Mind" following their recent grant award. The Edinburgh South charity received £348,499 from the Big Lottery Fund.

The money will be used for their "Altogether Better" Project which offers support to carers and parents of children under 18 from five locations in the South of the City to build confidence and skills, reduce isolation, and provide opportunities for families to participate together.

Beneficiaries will be able to take part in several activities to boost physical health including cycling, walking, cooking, dance and gardening; activities to improve mental health including complementary therapies, yoga, and a Well-Being and Me programme; and improve skills including parenting programmes, befriending and mentoring, play@home programmes and opportunities for volunteering.

Mike Pringle said;

"I was delighted to hear about this award.

"I know from my own experience that parenting isn't always easy and Health in Mind should be commended for their excellent work in supporting local families. When you are busy with young children, perhaps as a single parent it's all to easy to become isolated so its vital that there are organisations like this working hard to bring families together."

Hugo Whitaker, Project Manager, South Edinburgh Healthy Living Initiative, which will deliver the Health in Mind project, said:

"We are delighted at the news of this investment for our project, Altogether Better, which will make a positive difference to the lives of many families in South Edinburgh.

"The project design is based on comments and suggestions from parents and carers across the area and we will be working with them to set up these much-needed services.

"Our goal is to strengthen the contact between families and neighbours, as they get involved in the project, make new friends and learn new skills."
