Commenting on the recommendation from Holyrood's Finance Committee that the policy of paying bonuses to senior executives working in the public sector should be reviewed, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson and Committee member Jeremy Purvis MSP said:
"From the back benches SNP MSPs have decried film star type bonuses, yet their front bench has no response.
"Many senior executives' pay and bonus arrangements have not yet been agreed for 2008-09. The bonus freeze for 2010-11 should be applied now.
"The bonus pay policy needs to be radically reformed to make sure that there isn't a two-tier approach to bonus payments. The same rules must apply to all members of staff.
"The approach to bonus reform must be more radical."
