Commenting on the news from the Scottish Builders Federation (SBF) that almost 900 Scottish trainees and apprentices in the construction industry have been made redundant in the last 12 months, Liberal Democrat Chief Whip Mike Rumbles MSP said:

"Much of the blame for this drop in construction jobs lies with the SNP and their obsession with the discredited Scottish Futures Trust.

"The SFT has caused a paralysis in Scottish construction and has led to apprenticeships and jobs being cut.

"The SNP Government must now abandon this useless quango which is a waste of taxpayers' money, particularly during the recession."
