The Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference finished today and local Lib Dem PPC Jean Davis spoke of its outcome.
"In his closing speech Party Leader Nick Clegg called on voters to vote for change. It is time for a fresh start for Britain and a fresh start for the Western Isles."
Jean said, "Labour will lose the next Westminster election. They have run out of ideas. How many times recently have you heard Gordon Brown respond to issues? - Usually two weeks late and by borrowing other Party's policies!"Jean Davis: Western Isles
"A Tory victory will not help us here. Where is their prospective candidate? They don't have one yet. That's how important the Western Isles are to them. Do you think that a Tory government with their core support entrenched in the south of England will be remotely interested in the Western Isles?"
"I am aware that some people are flirting with the idea of voting Tory in the vain hope that a Western Isles Tory MP will keep the wind-farms at bay. In my view this is a fantasy."
"Of course we also have the Nationalists here. The Party is a one trick pony intent only on independence whatever the cost - and it will be great. They have failed to deliver promises in the Scottish Parliament and our own MP has not stepped up to the mark in Westminster. Alex Salmond's cannon fodder will never have influence in Westminster."
"Liberal Democrats wielding power in Westminster will make change. So if you want Westminster cleaned up, a strong lead on the economy from Vince Cable and a fair and open society consider the Liberal Democrats - a fresh start and a change from the old SNP - Labour- SNP flip flopping which has not well served these islands."
