Minister doesn't have Curriculum for Excellence details

Commenting after questioning the Education Secretary on Curriculum for Excellence at the Education Committee, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP said:

"The Minister has said it is time to move from principle to practicalities. But when I questioned him on the practicalities he didn't have the answers.

"Parents and teachers need to know this detail. They do not want a revolution in education. They want assurances that their children's education will not suffer and clarity from the Minister about what Curriculum for Excellence means in reality for their children.

"The important thing is that we get this right. If teachers, parents and unions and councils continue to voice concerns about implementation about this once in a generation change then the Cabinet Secretary must be prepared to slam on the brakes and give the process more time.

"The Curriculum for Excellence is due to start in August. I was glad to hear the Minister's reassurance that he may reconsider this position if necessary."
