Responding to the statement made by the Scottish Government confirming the General Teaching Council Scotland will retain its independent status as a result of a consultation undertaken by the Scottish government, Deputy Spokesman for Education and Young People, Hugh O'Donnell MSP said
"It is important that the GTC Scotland stays independent.
"I agree that reaccreditations need to be handled sensitively, but they are necessary to make sure that those who have been away from teaching for a significant amount of time are up to speed.
"But teachers should not be tied up in red tape after brief sabbaticals."
