Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP has said public safety should always be paramount, as Patrick Shearer, president of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland said that forces will have to target resources where they are needed.
Commenting Robert Brown said:
"Regardless of whether we are in age of prosperity or austerity, policing in Scotland should always put the interests of public safety first.
"The falling crime figures demonstrate the success of putting more police officers in local communities, targeting trouble hotspots and this must continue.
"I am confident that Chief Constables across Scotland will target their police officers in the most appropriate way according to area and circumstance so that this excellent job can continue.
"But it also important that they continue to listen to the public in all areas and take on board the issues that concern ordinary people. The most successful policing comes when the partnership between the police and the public is at its strongest."
