Stone warns about future dentist numbers in deprived areas

Commenting on official figures about the number of dentists, Liberal Democrat Public Health spokesperson Jamie Stone MSP said:
"Dentist numbers across Scotland are increasing, but today's figures show an alarming drop in the numbers working in the most deprived areas.
"It's vital that everyone has access to an NHS dentist. Good dental care is not only important for oral health, but can help identify more sinister health problems at an early stage.
"This is particularly important in areas of high deprivation.
"Today's increase in dentists is largely in more affluent areas. This won't help people in low income families who are struggling to find a dentist."
