Commenting on the funding announced today for 5 marine energy projects in Scotland by the Scottish Government, Liberal Democrat Convenor of the Scottish Parliament's Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee, Iain Smith MSP said:
"There are huge strides being made by marine energy developers in Scotland which are to be welcomed.
"The clear message from the industry is that Scotland is very well placed to capture the jobs and wealth from exploiting these new technologies.
"But this fledging industry needs genuine financial support to develop ideas into reality.
"Today's announcement of real money to back real development is worth so much more than the endless re-announcements or the irrelevant 'Saltire Prize'."
