Commenting on reports that 100 junior doctor positions remain unfilled after the latest round of recruitment in NHS Scotland, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP said:
"The Scottish Government needs to work with the Royal Colleges and the BMA to get a grip of NHS workforce planning.
"The Health Secretary must make sure that these unfilled posts don't jeopardise patient care. She also needs to work out how we can fill key vacancies.
"Some wards have already shut because of falling numbers of doctors in some specialities and in the future Scotland could end up with a lack of consultants in these areas."
