Edinburgh West MP Mike Crockart will be out on the streets of West Edinburgh today in an effort to raise awareness of a new No Cold Calling Zone.
Mike will be joining officials from the Edinburgh City Council Trading Standard, Lothian and Borders Police, The Department for Work and Pensions, and VOSA to look for any ongoing works that could have resulted from cold calling.
This is in preparation of approaching the residents of Cramond through a questionnaire with the intention of setting up a new no cold calling zone in the area. Officials will be hoping to get the support of over 50% of the residents in order for the zone to be implemented.
Mike Crockart said:
"There are far too many examples of people, especially the elderly, being taken advantage of by cold calling schemes.
"Trading standards officers will be approaching many residents across Cramond over the next few weeks and I encourage them to pledge their support to new cold calling zone.
"Previous implementations of No Cold Calling Zones have shown a reduction in the number of cases by 80% and I think the new zone will be whole heartedly welcome in Cramond and will go a long way in protecting residents."
